Jonathan "Bling" Bergeron
Pour ceux qui ont commencé le roller à son âge de gloire (les années 1990), Jonathan Bergeron n'a pas besoin de présentation. Ce québécois, vainqueur des X-games 98 à tout juste 17 ans, membre de la fameuse "Kill Team" aux côtés de Aaron Feinberg, Blake Dennis, Bruno Löewe etc, un pionnier du Flat spin, aura marqué cette génération. Aujourd'hui, il a 28 ans, skate toujours pour le fun et est cascadeur pour le cinéma. Retour sur une légende du roller des années 90.
For all those that started blading in the glory days (back in the 90's), Jonathan Bergeron doesn't need any further introduction. The French Canadian, winner of the 1998 X-Games when he was 17 years old, member of the infamous "Kill Team" along with Aaron Feinberg, Blake Dennis, Bruno Löewe etc, a flat spin pioneer, he has truly left a mark on this generation. He is now 29, still skates for the fun of it, and is a stuntman for the film industry, flashback on a legend from the nineties.

À vrai dire, je n’ai rien préparé la, pas vraiment eu le temps, mais comme tu es connecté… Je vais te poser quelques questions.
20:34Jon: C’est bon.
20:35JCB: Je vais pas te demander de te présenter, mais plutôt de me dire ce qu'est devenu Jon Bergeron depuis sa grande période c'est a dire fin 90 à maintenant ?
20:37Jon: J’ai continué à faire du Blade en faisant des spectacles avec des BMXers et des skateboarders et je suis maintenant cascadeur pour le cinéma.
20:38JCB: Quelle est ton approche du roller actuellement ?À quelle fréquence pratique tu ?
20:38Jon: Quand je fais des démonstrations, c’est à dire 2 fois par mois environ. J’ai 2 garçons maintenant.
20:39JCB: Donc tu n’as plus vraiment de temps pour skater pour toi, c'est désormais plus un moyen de nourrir la famille ?
20:40Jon: Non, pas du tout, je fais encore du roller pour le "love", parce que la paye est pas extra. Les films, ça, c’est payant !
20:41JCB: Tu tournes régulièrement ?
20:42Jonathan: Assez, mais il y a des temps morts.
20:42JCB: Fini le rap?
20:42Jon: Non, je rap encore a fond.
20:42JCB: ça donne quoi ? tu fais des disques ? Des concerts ?
20:43Jon: Je fais une mixtape en ce moment qui s’intitule A STAR IN THE FLESH !
20:43JCB: Tu es seul dessus ou tu as un groupe ?
20:44Jon: Mon groupe et label c est Insomniaxxx !
20:47JCB: ça serait possible d'avoir une copie ? J’aimerais écouter ça…
20:49Jon: Je pourrais t’envoyer quelques morceaux.

20:51JCB: Tu es toujours en contact avec la scène roller canadienne ? Que deviennent Nicky Adams et Ian Frenette?
20:52Jon: Oui, Nicky était en prison et Ian aussi. Nicky travaille au Taz (skatepark de Montréal) maintenant et Ian je sais pas…
20:53JCB: Nicky skate toujours?
20:54Jon: Oui.

20:58Jon: Non.
20:58JCB: Avec une famille à charge, ça ne doit pas être évident de bouger…
20:58Jon: C’est ça, trop occupé ici à Montréal.
20:59JCB: Tes enfants ont quels ages? Tu es toujours avec la mère ? Ca fait quoi d'être père de famille ?
20:59Jon: 3ans et 6 mois et non, plus avec la mère. Ça fait chaud au coeur de se voir dans d autres êtres humains et de savoir qu ils vont continuer ton chemin quand tu seras parti.

20:09Jon: La popularité, l’argent , les sponsors, tout change.
20:10JCB: Et ça a duré longtemps ou ça a été plutôt éphémère ?
20:10Jon: Jusqu’à ce que j arrête de faire des contests.
20:11JCB: T’en gardes un bon souvenir de tout ça ?
20:12Jon: Bien sûr, c’est toute mon adolescence et c est encore la.

20:32Jon: 2005, MTL classics. J’ai fini deuxième derrière Chris Haffey et devant Brian Aragon.
20:35JCB: Et cela ne t’as pas encouragé à continuer ?
20:36Jon: J’ai commencé à faire plus d’argent avec les films et les sponsors ne payent plus comme dans le temps alors...
20:36JCB: Je comprends, il faut pouvoir gagner sa vie…
20:36Jon: En roller, tu te casses pour peu et j'ai assez donné en ce domaine.
20:37JCB: Effectivement, ça serait gênant avec ton job actuel de cascadeur…
20:38Jon: Se faire mettre en feu ou sauter en dehors d'une voiture qui roule, c’est quand même tripant ! Et très payant !
20:38JCB: Pour finir, quelle vision tu as du roller actuel ?
20:38Jon: Le roller est encore vivant et le sera toujours !!!

20:35JCB: I'm not going to ask you to introduce yourself, but what happened to Jon Bergeron instead, since his big era, the end of the 90's-2000, until now ?
20:37Jon: I kept on blading and took part in shows along with BMXers and skateboarders, and I am now a stuntman for the film industry.20:38JCB: What's your relation with rollerblading nowadays ? How often do you skate ?
20:38Jon: Whenever I do demos, like twice a month. I've got two sons now.
20:39JCB: So you don't have much time to skate for youself now, it's more of a way to support your family instead ?
20:40Jon: Not at all, but I still blade for the love, because it doesn't pay much. Movies, that's where the money's at !
20:41JCB: Do you get a lot of work for these ?
20:42Jon: Pretty often, but there are some dead periods.
20:42JCB: Are you done with rapping ?
20:42Jon: Nope, I still rap as much as possible.
20:42JCB: What does it sound like ? You're making records ? Playing gigs ?20:43Jon: I'm working on a mixtape right now, that's gonna be entitled A STAR IN THE FLESH !
20:43JCB: Are you doing this alone or are you in a band ?
20:44Jon: My band and label are called « Insomniaxxx ».

20:52Jon: Yes, Nicky was in jail and so was Ian. Nicky now works at the Taz (one of Montreal's indoor parks), as for Ian I don't know.
20:53JCB: Does Nicky still skate ?
20:54Jon: Yeah.

20:56Jon: I'm doing bigger ones now, flat spin 900.

20:58JCB: Having a family to take care of, it isn't easy to travel everywhere...

20:59JCB: How old are your children ? Are you still with their mom ? What is it like to be in charge of a family ?
20:59Jon: 3 years, and 6 months old, and I'm not with the mother anymore. It's great to see a part of yourself in other human beings, and to know they will carry on once you're gone !

20:09Jon: Popularity, money, sponsors, everything changes.
20:10JCB: Did it last long or did it turn out to be rather short lived ?20:10Jon: It lasted until I stopped competing.
20:11JCB: Do you have some good memories of all this ?
20:12Jon: Of course, it's all my teenage years, and it's still there.
20:13: Internet connexion failure.
20:30JCB: When did you stop taking part in contests ?
20:32Jon: MTL Classic 2005. I placed second, right behind Chris Haffey and outranking Brian Aragon.
20:35JCB: And that didn't motivate you to keep competing ?
20:36Jon: I started making more money with the movies at that point, and skate sponsors can't pay as much as they used to, so...
20:36JCB: I understand, one has to make a living...
20:36Jon: On skates, you break yourself for very little reward, and I broke myself quite a lot.
20:37JCB: Yeah, it could actually be conflicting your job as a stuntman.20:38Jon: Being set on fire, or jumping out of a moving car, that's a lot of fun indeed ! And the pay is good !
20:38JCB: In conclusion, what's your vision of rollerblading nowadays ?20:38Jon: Rollerblading is still alive, and always will !!!
